Running is a lot less boring when you make a game out of it. I have been looking for a place in town to run that would allow me to spell out my name on my Map My Run app. I’ve been using this app during my training this year and it phil-routetracks your running route and provides a complete map when you finish. I thought it would be fun to do this to help pass the time and give me something to think about besides my pace.

On Saturday, I ran six miles while spelling out “Phil” on my route. I was quite entertained. It was a good morning run and my pace was 8:25, which I was very satisfied with. I was glad to get the run in earlier because it got a lot more windy in the afternoon. 35 mph winds with gusts close to 50 mph!

I didn’t get my run in until the afternoon on Sunday so it was more windy. It was still a good 4.8 mile run at a pace of 8:26. Again, I’m very happy with it being under 8:30.

What was more encouraging to me was that the week improved. I ran 3.3 on Tuesday at a pace of 8:16. Wednesday, it was raining but I wanted to get in at least a couple of miles. I ended up running in our sub-division 1.8 miles at a 7:27 pace. It gave me another opportunity to get in a speed workout. Then on Thursday, I put in 4.1 miles at a pace of 8:05. I think this is the fastest pace I’ve ever had that was over four miles.

This was probably my best week of running in a long time. I think I might even be starting to feel like a “runner.”
